Changes to my study programme
Welcome back to my blog for the last time.
I think this topic is one of the ones I like to talk about the most when asked about the University of Chile. The study program of the careers of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy is poorly done. Although it is good to have a kind of common plan for the first two years, I feel that the physical chemistry subject should not be compulsory and each degree should have physical chemistry but focus on its topics of interest. Also, it takes up too much time, so it should be worth more credits.
This brings me to the first problem, the subjects are not well distributed throughout the semesters. Specifically in biochemistry, in the fourth semester you have to take organic chemistry II, physical chemistry and system physiology, subjects that require too much time and there is no need to take them together. This problem is worse as you advance in the race.
And the second problem is that there are several subjects that have 1 or 2 requirements, and most of them are annual. This forces students to fall behind and they are forced to pay for another year of college. In addition, I think that the degree could last less time and it has subjects that are left over.
What I do highlight is that from the first year we have practical work in laboratories, however, these have a neglected infrastructure, with a lack of resources and old instruments. Scientific careers have the possibility of implementing technology as a study method but they do not.
Thank you very much for reading, it was a way to vent against the university.
Greetings.
